For Your Money:
The tour – often hosted by one of the company founders – should definitely be on your agenda if you’re planning a day trip to Chatham. The stills are a wonder to look at and the whole distillery lay out has something of a Charlie and the Chocolate Factory vibe to it. You’ll see the gin making process through from grain to glass, you’ll taste their spirits and finish it all off with a G&T in the onsite bar.
A few thoughts from Gin Foundry:
There’s not just whisky and gin being made here, there’s vodka! Why does that matter - well, massive stills to crane your neck around and a grain to glass approach that’s really hard not to be completely in awe of. You taste the Vela Vodka, Dockyard Gin and new make whisky and the tour is a nice mix of the the history / heritage of the local area and the glorious pumphouse building, distilling in general and the Copper Rivet way of approaching things, and there’s a cafe / restaurant open next door as well as. Well worth the visit!
